I had this thought a few days ago. There is a difference between being hateful towards someone, and preserving your own mental health. I’ve had people hurt me, quite deeply. I’ve suffered abuse from people who were supposed to love and support me. And while I was hurt and angry at first, in time, I have come to forgive them. Not for their own benefit. They would never ask for forgiveness for what they’ve done. Instead, I forgive them for my own benefit, so I don’t have the weight of that anger following me everywhere I go. But I won’t let them back in my life. For I know what they’re capable of, and remember the pain they’ve caused me. And I don’t want that. I don’t need that toxicity. Some might think it’s me being hateful, but it’s quite different. It’s because I know how much pain they’re willing to cause to someone, and I will not let them hurt me like they did before.
