Pain.

That was the only thing that Cecidit could register at the moment.

The pain that exploded from her stomach, that shot through her entire body.

Her once snow white hair was stained red, her white dress dyed red from the pool of blood that now surrounds her.

Her own blood.

Her golden fox tail was once swaying to a never-ending beat now refuses to move. The only sound that her golden fox ears could pick up with the howl of the wind.

Her teal eyes were losing the light of life.

... So this is what death felt like.

A gust of wind. The sound of wings flapping.

Eis. She could see the pale-skinned male, his hair short and white, the same colour of his eyes and wings.

The first of her siblings to arrive.

A rise in heat, the cackle of fire.

Thosi. A sun-kissed female with shoulder length orange hair, her eyes golden.

The second.

A shift of earth.

Aes. A fair-skinned elf with shoulder length grey hair and brown eyes.

The third.

Drops of rain, soon turning into a heavy downpour.

Sharaes. A fair-skinned female with short blue hairs, her eyes a deeper shade of blue.

The fourth.

Cecidit could feel one of her siblings pick her up, holding her close. Their voices rang out, though she could barely hear, barely see.

One question reached her ears.

“Who did this to you!?”

“D... Disas...” Was the only response she was able to manage.

She didn’t see her siblings expressions darken at the name, the sudden hate that flashed in their eyes. Gently, she was set back down, the hands of her siblings slowly slipping away from her.

Then they were gone, and there was silence once more.

A set of hands soon take her once more, gently lifting her up into a set of arms.

Cecidit looks up to the newcomer, giving the faintest of smiles. “Jharn...”

The final one of her siblings.

A fair skinned naga, having long copper hair and hazel eyes.

Tears fromed in Jharn’s eyes, the male gritting his teeth. “Ceci... I’m so sorry... I should’ve... I should’ve foreseen this...” His shoulders shake as he holds his sister close. “Why did I not foresee this??”

“J... Jharn...” Cecidit coughs, blood falling from her mouth.

Jharn guides his sister head so it rests in the crook of his neck. “Sh, sister. We’ll figure this out... we’ll... we’ll heal you... you’ll get better...”

“Wait a second, let me catch my breath.” Cecidit softly sings, her breathing becoming ragged. “Remind me how it feels to hear your voice.”

“Ceci!” Jharn scolds, tears falling from his eyes. “You need to save your strength!”

Cecidit slowly shakes her head. “Your lips are movin’ I can’t hear a thing... Livin’ life as if we had a choice...” She coughs, weakly moving her hand to cup his face, wiping his tears away. “Anywhere, anytime, I would do anything for you. Anything for you...”

Her hand falls away, though Jharn catches it, holding it in his.

Cecidit gives a weak smile. “Yesterday got away, melodies stuck inside your head. A song in every breath.” She takes a sharp breath. “Sing me to sleep now. Sing me to sleep.”

Jharn’s eyes widen. “Ceci, you can’t! You can’t ask me to-”

Cecidit covers his mouth with her hand to silence him, her hand then falling away. “Oh just sing me to sleep now.” Her eyes close. “Sing me to sleep.”

She could hear her brother’s screams, his pleading as she slipped away. The sweet embrace of death sung to her, and she could hold on no longer...

“Aetaes, you should be sleeping.”

The fifteen year old jump at the voice, her teal eyes widening as she whips around to the source, her black-tipped white wolf years straighten as the fur of her black-tipped white wolf tail stands on end.

Jharn leans against the stone wall, watching the white-haired female.

Aetaes nervously plays with the hem of her blue dress. “W-what if they come back?” She asks. “W-what if they find us...?”

Jharn sighs; his long golden tail gently coils around the fifteen year old. “What have I told you?” He responds with his own question, carefully bringing Aetaes to him before releasing her. “So long as you remain in this temple, you’re safe. Nothing will harm either of you.”

Aetaes shifts on her feet. “I-I know, but...”

“No buts.” He gently pushes her forward. “Go sleep.”

Aetaes gives a small nod, letting Jharn guide her deeper into the temple. She soon finds herself in a large room, torches on the walls the only source of light. Various paintings decorated the walls as carved pillars stood proudly in the room.

She makes her way to the end of the room, looking down to the make-shift bed. There, a thirteen year old girl lay, her hair black as night with a single red streak, sleeping peacefully under the blanket.

Aetaes kneels down beside the girl. “Remember me now, time cannot erase.” She quietly sings. “I can hear your whispers in my mind.”

Jharn watches Aetaes closely, this melody a very familiar one.

Aetaes rises to her feet. “I’ve become what you cannot embrace.” She moves to the other side of the make-shift bed, sliding under the covers. “Our memory will be my lullaby.”

She watches the thirteen year old of a moment. “Sing me to sleep now. Sing me to sleep.” Slowly, she reaches over; gently grasping the thirteen year old’s hand. “Won’t you sing me to sleep now?” Her eyes slowly close. “Sing me to sleep.”

The fifteen year old soon falls into a peaceful slumber, her hand locked with the thirteen year olds.

Slowly, Jharn makes his way over to the two girls, gently resting his hand on Aetaes’s head. “So it is you...” He whispers, letting his tail coil protectively around the two.

A metal tray crashes to the stone floor, the nineteen year old Aetaes’s eyes widening.

Aetaes’s hands cover her mouth as she takes a step back, her from shaking with her ears flat against her head.

She swallows the lump in her throat, her hands slowly leaving her mouth. One grips the hem of her sleeveless golden dress, the other, grips the gold bell that was attaches to the black collar around her neck.

Her reflection showed not herself, but Cecidit, the Goddess that had died thousands of years ago.

Aetaes gasps, taking a staggered step back as she clutches her head. “A-anytime...” Her ears straighten as her hands fall from her head. “I would do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do... Time away...”

A wind picks up in the room, Aeteas’s feet leaving the ground as she hovers in the air, her body limp. “Yesterday-day-day-day-day... A-anytime...” Her eyes glow pure white, memories flooding back into her mind. “I would do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do... Time away... Yesterday-day-day-day-day...”

The wind dies down; the glow leaving the nineteen year old’s eyes. Slowly, she lowers to the ground, laying on the stone floor unconscious.

Footsteps soon softly echo through the room, stopping just before Aetaes. “... You finally looked into the mirror, huh?” The twenty year old chuckles, gently kneeling down beside Aetaes. His hand brushes against the bell around her neck, his white tiger-like tail flickering. “... You’ve kept this for all these years?”

Gently, he slides his arms underneath her, scooping her up into his arms, his emerald eyes studying her a moment. He gives a soft smile, resting his forehead against hers, his short white hair brushing against her as his white tiger-like ears relax against his head.

“... Never in all my life did I think I’d fall for you, little Goddess.”
